Sharing your story is one of the most powerful tools we have.  Telling your story can help normalise the experience of living with HIV as just another medical condition. It can also help to break down stigma around HIV by humanising the experience of living with HIV.

Get your voice and your story heard in Positive Life’s Talkabout magazine. Talkabout’s greatest strength is the voices of the people living with HIV who contribute our stories of success and hardship, love and loss, joy and sadness, courage and fear that really make a difference! You can find more at our extensive Talkabout online library going back to 1988.

If you have a story to share or willing to be interviewed, please contact Positive Life on (02) 8357 8386 or 1800 245 677 (freecall outside metro), or email editor@positivelife.org.au Published articles receive $30 voucher.

If you prefer to write yourself, below are some basic guidelines to get you started!

Writing for Talkabout

  • Word Limit: 400-500 words
  • Short paragraphs, using Plain English
  • Use first-person (‘I’,  ‘me’, ‘my’)
  • Write in a conversational style as if you were speaking to a friend
  • If you have concerns about disclosure or your anonymity, please discuss this with the Talkabout Editor before writing your story

Your written work will be reviewed and edited by the Talkabout editor for spelling and grammar. Political or religious discussion, swearing or inappropriate language will be removed before publication. We will also need to remove the names of specific venues, businesses or organisations, or other advertising or endorsement for services, books, blogs or websites.
