In June 2009, elder, activist, writer and historian Garry Wotherspoon authored a 25th Positive Life NSW Anniversary history chronology. This slim summary offers an insight into the history of HIV in NSW from November 1982 when Australia reported its first case of AIDS in Sydney, to 2009.
As Garry says, ‘any written history reflects selections and omissions, and this work is no exception. Not everyone who deserved mention will have their names recorded here, but this is not a reflection on their contribution, and I hope their spirit pervades the pages.’
